Description:

We are seeking an experienced Microservices Technical Lead (.NET / SQL) to spearhead critical backend modernization initiatives. In this role, you will provide architectural leadership, hands-on SQL and .NET engineering, and collaborative solution design to decompose a complex monolithic database into microservice-aligned schemas.

Working alongside Project Managers, Scrum Masters, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), and cross-functional engineering teams, you will drive data pipeline development, code quality standards, and technical alignment across enterprise systems.

Architecture & Collaborative Solution Design:
• Lead technical design discussions for microservices decomposition, database restructuring, and API integration.
• Author collaborative design documentation and maintain Technical Decision Records (TDRs).
• Ensure modernization patterns align with microservice boundaries, enterprise architecture standards, and audit timelines.

Hands-On SQL & Backend Development:
• Deliver robust SQL engineering, including schema modernization, complex stored procedures, views, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
• Support backend .NET/C# API development, data access patterns, and microservices integration.
• Build, deploy, and maintain data migration pipelines and ETL workloads using Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Engineer and maintain database workloads hosted on Azure SQL within IaaS VM environments.

Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance:
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to senior engineering talent, fostering a collaborative delivery culture.
• Conduct thorough code and documentation reviews across T-SQL, .NET, and integration layers.
• Partner closely with Project Managers/Scrum Masters and veteran SMEs to unblock technical hurdles and inform project roadmaps.
• Collaborate across cross-functional groups, including Business Analysts, QA, DevOps, Cloud Engineering, and Change Advisory Boards (CAB).

Compliance & Governance:
• Ensure database design and data flows strictly adhere to data retention rules, secure data handling guidelines, and regulatory compliance standards (such as PCI DSS).

Required Qualifications
• Overall IT Experience: 10+ years in software and database development.
• SQL Server Expertise: 7+ years of hands-on SQL Server development (T-SQL, complex schema design, indexing, stored procedures, and query performance tuning).
• .NET/C# Backend Development: 5+ years building backend services, RESTful APIs, and data access layers.
• Technical Leadership: 3–5 years leading and guiding technical teams, driving solution architecture, and conducting code reviews.
• Modernization & Migration: 3+ years modernizing monolithic systems and restructuring legacy database architectures.
• Cloud Infrastructure: 3+ years managing and developing for Azure SQL on IaaS VM environments.
• ETL & Data Pipelines: 3+ years building data pipelines and managing ETL workloads with Azure Data Factory (ADF).
• Agile Delivery: 3+ years collaborating in active Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
• Experience in public sector, state government, or transportation-focused enterprise systems.
• Proven track record delivering within highly regulated or audited operational environments.
• Deep practical knowledge of distributed systems, domain-driven design, and microservices architecture patterns.
