We are seeking a customer-focused, self-motivated, and detail-oriented Dental Public Health Office Assistant to support operations in a public health dental clinic environment. The ideal candidate will handle front-office administrative operations, patient scheduling, and registration while delivering high-quality customer service to the community.

Key Responsibilities
• Patient Operations: Schedule and manage appointments, conduct check-in/check-out processes, perform reminder calls, and coordinate referrals.
• Registration & Eligibility: Collect and update patient demographic data; verify documentation to determine eligibility for state and federal programs.
• Information Systems: Input and retrieve data across multiple healthcare and electronic dental record (EDR) software applications.
• Records Management: Scan and index paper/electronic records into the electronic dental record system.
• Financial Handling: Process cash drawer payments and perform daily balancing to ensure strict fiscal compliance.
• Patient Relations: Inform clients of program rights/responsibilities and visit requirements in a constructive and cooperative manner.
• Authorizations: Obtain proper HIPAA/privacy authorizations before releasing medical records; gather documentation to support prior authorization submissions with insurance providers.

Minimum Qualifications
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of full-time experience delivering customer service and/or general office/clerical work.
o Education Substitution: Accredited college or university coursework may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis (up to a maximum of 2 years).
• Licensing & Travel: Valid Driver’s License and willingness to travel to surrounding counties as needed.
• Background Check: Must be able to successfully pass standard state and federal background clearances.
• Residency Requirement: Must be a current resident of Tennessee (or fully relocated/established residency prior to the start date).

Preferred Qualifications
• Active Tennessee Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) License (to assist chairside during emergencies or staffing shortages).
• Prior dental front-office experience, including knowledge of dental terminology, appointment scheduling, and insurance coding.

Working Conditions:
• Location: Athens, TN (Onsite with occasional travel to surrounding counties)
• Position Type: Contract (Full-Time)
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM EST (40 hours/week)
